Testosterone – Heart Condition

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

For the past year or so we’ve been writing about the benefits of Testosterone Support in addressing many of the signs of aging in Men:

  • Decreased Energy
  • Increased body fat, particularly around the abdomen
  • Decreased Muscle Tone
  • Decreased Libido

Now a new study published in the journal, Circulation Heart Failure theorizes that Testosterone supplements may improve the quality of life for patients who have certain heart conditions. In the study, patients experienced improved breathing and exercise abilities. An inability to exercise is one of the hallmark symptoms of heart failure. Patients physically cannot walk as far or as fast or as much as they could when they were healthy. Patients on testosterone therapy saw an increase in the amount of oxygen the body used per minute of exercise, a measure known as VO2 max, which is a very specific indicator of a person’s fitness level.

Testosterone may help these patients not because it directly affects the heart itself but because it may target the peripheral tissues, such as the skeletal muscles. Sound familiar? The hormone has also been shown to widen blood vessels, allowing more blood to reach the muscles. It may also increase levels of hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells which transports oxygen.

The article went on to say that people should not start using testosterone supplements based solely on these results and that further studies are needed to determine exactly how testosterone acts in heart failure patients.

However, being able to exercise longer and harder, with improved VO2 max and more skeletal muscle can’t be all bad, particularly if your heart is perfectly healthy.

At RegiMEN we believe in a safe, natural, holistic approach to anti-aging. Obviously we believe in the appropriate supplementation, such as a scientifically developed testosterone support product to optimize your natural testosterone levels while reducing production of estrogen. But we also are major proponents of the appropriate nutrition plan and an exercise regimen.

Getting older is inevitable. However, at RegiMEN we believe in aging without limitations.
Follow us as we explore new anti-aging strategies, always focused on safety, with natural and effective products and healthy lifestyle choices. Give us your feedback. What products or therapies have you tried? What treatment regimens have you followed? And, how effective were they in addressing age related issues for you?

Yours in good health.

Aging Without Limitations, It isn’t Just Low T

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

Our philosophy at RegiMEN centers on safe, natural, effective products and a holistic approach to anti-aging. Whenever we work with a client and mention “aging without limitations”, or “not letting aging become a limiting factor in their lives” we initially get a glassy stare. And, I know exactly what they are thinking, “great slogan, great tag line”. But at RegiMEN it is much more than that, it’s our belief and our philosophy. Once we engage with a client we take them through our Theories of Aging seminar and explain all that occurs in the aging process and, those things that can be done to address the signs of aging. That’s when the light usually goes on.

Aging is insidious. It happens gradually, sometimes so gradually we barely notice. Testosterone levels drop by about 1% – 2% per year starting in our mid twenties. Growth Hormone declines as well, by age 50 GH levels may have declined by as much as 75% of that of a twenty year old. Free radical damage also plays a major role in aging as does chronic inflammation, a contributing factor in arthritis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and heart disease to name a few.

Today we are bombarded on TV, the radio and in magazines with the Low T message. As if Low T is the be all and end all to anti-aging. Yes, it addresses a major factor in the aging process, but a true anti-aging regimen is much more. To effectively address the aging process one must take a holistic approach. Testosterone levels are very important, but only one piece of the puzzle. You must also address free radical damage, chronic inflammation, hGH release, and, to be very successful you will need to adopt a lifestyle that includes a healthy diet and exercise.

From a supplementation point of view, RegiMEN’s Essential RegiMEN addresses each of the major causes of aging: Testosterone Support to address Low T, Growth Hormone Support to aid in the release of hGH, and our Anti-Oxidant & Anti-Inflammatory to combat oxidation and chronic inflammation.

Low T

We work with many different clients with widely varying lifestyles; from sedentary attorneys and executives who have no time for working out, to endurance athletes in their 60’s and power lifters in their 70’s. Our Testosterone Support and GH release products continue to get rave reviews as these clients feel more energy, improve their endurance and increase their strength. But, possibly the most gratifying changes we see are from those people who get such great results from our Anti-Oxidant & Anti-Inflammatory product. We’ve received testimonials from twenty-two year olds with back problems, to thirty something’s with chronic knee problems, to forty-nine year olds with degenerative hip joints, and they all have experienced relief when using this product. Initially we designed the Anti-Oxidant & Anti-Inflammatory as a “preventative” product, to combat free radical damage and chronic inflammation. What we are finding is that the product works incredibly well on inflammation from chronic injuries and even on acute inflammation. Why is this such a big deal? Because it allows our clients to get back in the gym or back to their normal activities, be it endurance, tennis, golf, etc.

We are not alone in our belief in the importance of an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory regimen. Sports medicine specialists, particularly those dealing with professional or Olympic athletes, regularly prescribe an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory protocol to minimize injuries and to shorten recovery periods.

It is incredibly gratifying to see our customers come back month after month for the Essential RegiMEN. Many of these people tell us we have virtually changed their lives, whether it be by providing more energy, increased lean muscle, weight loss, or allowing them to get back in the gym.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle; with proper nutrition, supplementation and exercise; and, no smoking, or alcohol or drug abuse; can add years to your life expectancy. It’s why we preach a holistic approach to anti-aging. Continue to follow us as we explore new anti-aging strategies, focused on safety, with natural and effective products and healthy lifestyle choices. And feel free to give us your feedback. What anti-aging protocols and regimens have you followed? How effective were they?

Rebounding From Prohormone Use

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

Obviously, here at RegiMEN, our philosophy centers on safe, natural, effective products and a holistic approach to anti-aging. Just as obviously, there are numerous clinics, services, on-line companies, and companies that advertise in airline magazines who preach a different approach. There is no doubt that some of these treatments are effective, but at what cost?  We’re speaking not just of the financial expense (which can be significant) but the long-term health implications that are still not truly known.

Another area for concern are the prohormones sold over the counter as supplements. In addition to being harder on the liver, they can wreak havoc with your natural testosterone levels. Regardless of the type of synthetic hormone you might have tried there is a protocol to be followed for the safe return to your optimum, natural testosterone and estrogen levels. When using a synthetic product our body automatically regulates our natural testosterone and estrogen levels to keep us in balance. Once you discontinue using the product your body’s estrogen levels are still inflated and your body is not producing normal amounts of testosterone.

Indicators of lowered testosterone due to synthetics include:

  • Reduced sex drive and stamina
  • Lack of energy
  • Mood swings, depression
  • Abdominal weight gain
  • Strength declines

We have had numerous clients who have sought an answer to the lowered testosterone levels experienced post-synthetic cycle. Our preferred method of dealing with artificially lowered testosterone levels is a safe, natural testosterone support product with an anti-estrogen blend to bring things back to balance. Taken as directed, your testosterone and estrogen levels will start to normalize within the first 30 days.

Follow us as we explore holistic new anti-aging strategies, always focused on safety, with natural and effective products and healthy lifestyle choices in your diet along with nutrition and conditioning RegiMEN.

Give us your feedback. Have you ever suffered from synthetic induced lowered testosterone levels? What treatment regimen have you followed? How effective was it in restoring normal levels?

On Turning 60…

On Turning 60 Years of Age. Time to Live with a Purpose:

Our philosophy at RegiMEN centers on safe, natural, effective products and a holistic approach to anti-aging. We’ve explored turning 40 and 50, so it’s only fair we also address that other birthday with a big round number 6-0. Boomers are now the largest demographic in this country, an estimated 78 million of them. On average, each year more than four million people turn sixty! That’s more than 11,000 people every day, more than 450 people an hour, one hundred people every thirteen minutes who hit this life pondering milestone and start dwelling upon mortality and what they really want with the time they have left.

I have a good friend who turned sixty this year and like many others who reached this milestone, he took some time to stop, reflect, and take stock of his life. His first reaction was, “How the heck did I get to be sixty? I don’t feel old, in my mind I’m still about 45”!  Next, the logical side kicked in and he thought “Hey I still have a relatively long time to go, I’m healthy, active, and take care of myself”. National averages say a healthy sixty year old man can expect to live for another twenty something years. After a big sigh of relief, the third stage took hold. If the last twenty five years went by this quickly it’s safe to assume so will the next twenty five! And if they are going to go by as quickly, “When am I going to do something that really matters?” “When am I going to make a difference in this world?”

Now my friend is in great shape for a 60 year old, in fact he may be in better shape than when he was in his forties. And, he’s been successful by most standards. But, he feels he has unfinished business and much yet to be accomplished.

He is a perfect example of why we developed RegiMEN. He has no intention of aging gracefully. He refuses to allow aging to be a limiting factor in his life. And he’s not alone, We have numerous clients who still compete (in their age brackets) in running, biking, power lifting etc. (The power lifter by the way is in his seventies)! But RegiMEN is not just for athletes. We have doctors and attorneys who are on the course or on the court once a week who love the results they are seeing.

Getting older is inevitable. However, if you still have much to accomplish join us as we explore holistic new anti-aging strategies, always focused on safety, with natural and effective products and healthy lifestyle choices.

Give us your feedback. What anti-aging protocols and regimens have you followed? How effective were they for you?

Yours in good health.

Chronic Inflammation – The Enemy Within

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Our philosophy at RegiMEN centers on safe, natural, effective products and a holistic approach to anti-aging. In a previous blog titled Theories on Aging, we detailed many of the causes of aging and death, including chronic inflammation. The Today Show on NBC, recently interviewed Dr. Kerry Peterson regarding this issue. She elaborated on chronic inflammation as the underlying cause of a host of health problems, including:

  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Heart Disease
  • Cancer
  • Depression
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

One of the most disturbing points made by Dr. Peterson was that unlike acute inflammation there are no symptoms of chronic inflammation, and there are no direct tests for chronic inflammation. In other words chronic inflammation can be at work in our bodies without us ever knowing.

Let’s review the two types of inflammation:

Acute inflammation is a part of the body’s natural defense system against injury and disease. It is the body’s response to injury and infection whereby immune cells are called to the site of the injury through the blood stream. Most people associate inflammation with the pain and swelling that accompanies an injury or infection. Without inflammation, wounds might never heal properly, resulting in a progressive destruction of tissue and loss of function.

Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, is a disorder unto itself, and instead of protecting our bodies, it results in harm to the body. Basically the immune response system goes out of control, engages unnecessarily, and damages healthy tissue. Modern medicine now recognizes that chronic inflammation is a primary contributing factor in a variety of degenerative diseases:

  • Inflammation in a joint can result in arthritis.
  • Inflammation in the blood vessels can lead to atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).
  • Inflammation is a major contributor to cardiovascular disease, including stroke and heart attack.

It should also be noted that people who suffer from chronic inflammation tend to appear much older than their chronological age.

What causes chronic inflammation? There are several potential triggers such as being overweight, common colds, anxiety, depression, and a diet rich in high fat foods or rich in simple sugars.

The ‘treatment’ for acute inflammation is typically a pain medication, usually a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen.

At RegiMEN we believe there are several effective protocols to address chronic inflammation:

  • A healthy diet featuring the following foods:
    • omega-3 fatty acids in fish such as salmon
    • good fats such as olive oil
    • Foods high in anti-oxidants such as green vegetables, cherries / blueberries, the spice Turmeric and green tea.
  • A conscientious exercise program
  • Supplementation with a potent anti-inflammatory

RegiMEN has developed a very effective Anti-Oxidant & Anti-Inflammatory product as part of our Essential Package. With its potent blend of Lycopene Extract, Resveratrol, Quercitin, Turmeric root and Bromelain this product is proving very effective on acute inflammation, as well as addressing chronic inflammation.

Continue to follow us as we explore holistic new anti-aging strategies, always focused on safety, with natural and effective products and healthy lifestyle choices in your diet along with nutrition and conditioning RegiMEN.

Anti-Aging Schools Of Thought

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Our philosophy at RegiMEN centers on safe, natural, effective products and a holistic approach to anti-aging. Several years ago I Googled “weight loss” and was amazed to find some 99 million references. Recently I did the same thing for anti-aging and the results were similar, over 58 million references, including everything from skin care, to hormone replacement theory, to wonder drugs, and, even diet.

The internet is rife with anti-aging theories and products. Beyond skin care there are two major schools, the free radical damage school and the hormone replacement school. The free radical school portrays free radical damage as the major culprit, with some attention paid to cell deterioration and inflammation, and recommends certain supplements, primarily one or another form of resveratrol. The hormone replacement school contends aging is a result of declining hormone levels and recommends hormone replacement therapy, either testosterone or growth hormone replacement.

Ironically neither school gives much credence to the importance of a holistic approach which includes nutrition and exercise. This, despite the fact that some studies show that a restricted calorie diet can be effective in slowing the signs of aging. And, other studies which show that declines associated with aging are the result of lack of exercise (“use it or lose it”) and exercise intensity.

At RegiMEN we combine the thoughts of both schools in our theories on aging; free radical damage, chronic inflammation, and declining hormone levels (testosterone, growth hormone and DHEA).

Getting back to the free radical damage theory, we believe they are on the right path as far as they go. After all, we include resveratrol in our Anti-Oxidant & Anti-Inflammatory. However, we go beyond resveratrol (which has both anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties), and include several other key ingredients; Lycopene Extract and Wolfberry Extract to combat oxidation, and, Quercetin and Turmeric to fight chronic inflammation. Even though this product was developed as a preventative measure, the product receives rave reviews in addressing the inflammatory response in chronic injuries.

In our opinion The Essential RegiMEN addresses all of the major causes of aging with its Testosterone Support, GH Support, Anti-Oxidant & Anti-Inflammatory, and does so safely and naturally without introducing prohormones, steroids or other synthetic hormones.

Exercise and hGH Release

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Here at RegiMEN, our philosophy centers on safe, natural, effective products and a holistic approach to anti-aging.  One of the reasons we age is that our natural production of hGH, human growth hormone, decreases with age. Growth Hormone secretions peak during adolescence and by the age of 50 may have declined by as much as 75% of that of a 20 year old. Human growth hormone is produced in the anterior portion of the pituitary, a pea-sized organ located at the base of the brain. Ironically, later in life the body still produces the same amount of hGH as when we were younger, however, the aging pituitary gland simply does not release the hormone as effectively.

Declining hGH is directly associated with many of the signs of aging, such as: decreased energy, loss of muscle tone, increased body fat, wrinkles, gray hair, joint stiffness, cardiovascular disease, depression, and osteoporosis. There are numerous treatments and theories about hGH secretion and depending on your philosophies you may be addressing this issue through doctor prescribed injections, supplementation and / or exercise. At RegiMEN we believe that there are very effective strategies in terms of exercise, diet and supplementation to optimize the secretion of natural hGH without the risks of steroid and or hormone abuse.

hGH tends to be released in a pulsatile manner; often in concert with our circadian rhythms, yet secretions can be triggered by certain natural stimuli, most notably sleep and exercise:

Sleep:

There is no question a good night’s sleep is critical to our overall health. Repair and recovery occur during sleep and that is reason enough to strive for an average of eight hours rest. Add to that the fact that generally hGH release is at its highest during the first hour or two of deep sleep, which is why getting to bed at a decent hour is also important. And, lack of sleep itself (insomnia) can contribute to making us fat due to the release of cortisol.

Exercise induced hGH Release:

Exercise is possibly the single largest contributor to growth hormone release. And, different types of exercise impact hGH in different ways. A light aerobic activity may raise your heart rate, but most likely will not induce hGH release. Compare this to a higher intensity interval training which is shown to be far more effective. Resistance training is also  an excellent method. To aid in release, resistance training must be sustained and strenuous enough to achieve muscle fatigue, but not so strenuous as to cause injury. A combination of interval and resistance training four to five times per week should be more than adequate to stimulate natural gGH release.

Supplementation:

Obviously we believe we have created an excellent GH Support product at RegiMEN and urge you to consider our Essential product package. Other supplements which are beneficial to hGH secretions include glutamine and amino acids post workout, and plenty of quality protein throughout the day.

Follow us as we continue to explore holistic new anti-aging strategies, always focused on safety, with natural and effective products and healthy lifestyle choices in your diet and conditioning.

Give us your feedback on the above. What treatments, or regimens, are you following to optimize natural hGH levels and how effective are they?

Tips On Maintaining Your Youth

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

At RegiMEN our mantra is “aging without limitations”… Today there are some 450 million baby boomers world-wide. People are getting older and living longer. The over 50 age group is the fastest growing segment of the population—and life expectancy is at an all-time high!  In fact, someone turns fifty every 7 seconds in the U.S. I just returned from a high school reunion and one of the big topics was aging. Everyone agreed, we don’t feel any older, nor do we want to be thought of as older, and we sure as heck don’t want to start acting older! So how does one go about eliminating aging as a limiting factor in their lives? Read on, as we’ll keep this simple and to the point.

It is well known that certain things occur as we age: our hormone levels decline (by about 1 – 2% per year, starting in our mid-late twenties); we tend to lose muscle mass and gain more weight, particularly in the abdominal area; we suffer cell damage from free radicals; we lose strength and flexibility; sleep disorders become prevalent; our libido begins to lag; we begin to suffer the disorders associated with chronic inflammation; or we  stop / reduce exercise due to the pain associated with the inflammatory response from chronic injuries.

Aging is inevitable, however, how would you feel if I told you that you could offset up to 75% of the effects of aging? There is no magic pill or wonder drug, although obviously we believe the appropriate supplement regimen can make a major difference. Here are the three simple steps we highly recommend to help you maintain your youth:

  • Nutrition, maintain a healthy nutrition plan with the appropriate number of calories, in the proper ratio of macronutrients. One of the major deficiencies we see is an inadequate amount of protein in the diet. Eat 5 – 6 small meals per day, basically every three hours, even if you’re not hungry, and never eat carbohydrates without protein.
  • Exercise, up to 50% of aging is attributable to “use it or lose it” so get up and exercise. Another 25% of aging is attributable to the lack of intensity in our exercise. Check with your medical professional first, but consider getting involved in an activity that has competitive age brackets and get some intensity back in your workouts and your life.
  • Live a “healthy lifestyle”, quit smoking, obviously no recreational drugs, and drink in moderation.

Sure we could give you the Top 5 Tips or the Super 7 Suggestions but adapt the above into your life and you will see and feel the difference. We know it works, we’ve seen our clients make tremendous gains in their 40’s, 50’s and beyond.

DHEA’s Role in Anti-Aging

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

DHEA the “Mother Hormone”:

Our philosophy at RegiMEN centers on safe, natural, effective products and a holistic approach to anti-aging. In previous blogs we’ve discussed testosterone and growth hormone and how levels decline over time. We now thought it time to touch on another important hormone, in fact, one which some people refer to as the “Mother Hormone”, (because our body converts it, upon demand, into whatever hormone is needed). By definition DHEA it is a precursor hormone, a precursor is a substance used by the body to form another substance, and as noted in the case of DHEA, the body can use it to produce many  other required hormones.

DHEA or Dehydroepiandrosterone is produced by the adrenal glands and is converted to androstenedione in the body, and then to testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, and others.  DHEA is one of the muscle-building, libido enhancing androgens.

Not unlike other hormones, DHEA production peaks in the mid to late twenties and steadily declines over time. It is considered one of the most reliable markers of aging. And, like testosterone some scientists believe the effects can be weight gain, loss of muscle mass, stiffened joints, sleeping disorders, decreased energy and stamina.

Primary uses of DHEA are to slow or reverse the aging process and to improve thinking skills in older people. Athletes use DHEA to increase muscle mass and strength. Others use DHEA for weight loss, improved stamina and increased bone density.

The recommended dosage for DHEA is 25 – 50 mg per day. It should be noted that DHEA is banned by the NCAA.

Investing In Your Health…

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Recently a very large, established, upscale furniture chain declared bankruptcy. I was shocked. But as I thought about it further I realized just how challenging these times are for the majority of people financially. As real estate prices have plummeted many people have lost a major portion of their wealth. There have been record numbers of foreclosures, bankruptcies and failed businesses. It seems you need to get a small business loan just to fill up your gas tank. Many in our generation invested their time and energy building financial wealth and security with little or no regard to their physical health. And, where are they today? Even for those who are surviving these current difficult times fiscally, what have they gained if their health fails them physically?

At RegiMEN,  our philosophy centers on safe, natural, effective products and a holistic approach to anti-aging. A holistic approach encompasses healthy habits, a good nutrition plan, the appropriate exercise regimen and supplementation. We believe that by adapting a healthy lifestyle you can continue to make gains at any age in your physical performance.

We have numerous clients in their late 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and beyond that are maintaining and in some instances improving upon their physical capabilities from younger years. We have a 70 something who continues to set world records in power lifting. And, we see people every day that simply by following our regimen are maintaining healthy lives and are aging gracefully. What they all have in common is that they invest daily in their health. They follow a sensible nutrition plan, and, nutrition is absolutely key. They engage in physical activity, usually some combination of resistance training, endurance training and stretching. And, our clients gain the additional benefit of our Essential RegiMEN as well as our Body and Mind RegiMEN products. These products address virtually every major cause of aging, from declining hormone levels, to oxidation and chronic inflammation.

I’ve written previously about scientific studies on aging and the importance of exercise: 50% of the decline we experience with aging is a simple function of “use it or lose it”; another 25% of the decline is due to lack of “intensity” in a training program; and, the remaining 25% of the decline is an inevitable fact of growing older. So investing in your health now is a very logical decision. Investing in your health requires a commitment, and the discipline to make healthy choices each and every day. There is no magic pill, there is no quick fix. However, the benefits are worth it. Your body and your health are your most important assets.

If you are new to our site please follow us as we continuously explore new, holistic anti-aging strategies.

Please feel free to give us your feedback. What anti-aging products or therapies have you tried? What treatment regimens have you followed? And, how effective have they been for you?

Yours in good health.
