Testosterone Available Treatments
A clinical description of low testosterone would be defined as less than 300 nanograms per deciliter of blood. The only way to measure testosterone levels is to visit your health professional and have them do a blood panel. Some symptoms of low testosterone are listed below:
- Decreased energy
- Increased body fat, particularly around the abdomen
- Decreased muscle tone
- Decreased libido
Other indicators of Low T would include erectile dysfunction, night sweats, sleeping disorders, mood swings and depression. In fact, many of those suffering from Low T experience a rather marked decrease in quality of life.
Fortunately there are several ways to treat lowered testosterone levels:
- Intramuscular testosterone injections or pellets (Doctor prescribed)
- Testosterone gels and patches, either through an M.D. or from a homeopathic doctor
- Supplementation.
Testosterone replacement prescriptions are dramatically on the rise. Many experts feel the increase is warranted while others caution that long term benefits (or risks) are not as yet known
There are a plethora of testosterone boosting supplements on the market. Most offer a natural approach, helping your body to manufacture its own testosterone. There are, however, other products being marketed as “prohormones” and one should exercise caution with these types of products as the FDA actually banned all “prohormones” in 2004. A scientifically developed testosterone support product should optimize your natural testosterone levels while reducing production of estrogen.
Each treatment offers benefits and each has its issues. The most efficacious treatment is hormone replacement therapy, however, the cost can be prohibitive and there are potential harmful side effects. Supplements although not as efficacious as HRT offer a safer, more natural approach to addressing deficient testosterone levels.
Regardless of one’s approach, taking positive action to reverse declining testosterone levels has many health benefits, such as improving cardiac function, decreasing bad “LDL” cholesterol levels, improving cognitive powers, reducing risk of depression, anxiety and dementia and improving body composition.
